Repair & Regeneration Fund Project

A new heart for Old Hill

Holy Trinity Parish Church in Old Hill is at the heart of a growing community in the Black Country. The people around us already benefit from our mission to take the love of Jesus Christ into the local community through our work with children, youth, famiies and senior citizens alike. We now want to expand and grow that work to better serve the people of Old Hill and the surrounding area. The Regeneration Appeal has been launched so that the church can adapt to the modern world and continue to serve the community in so many different ways, now and in the future. You can download the Regeneration Fund brochure for a full vision of the future of Holy Trinity.

Phase 1

The first phase of The Repair & Regeneration Fund centres around repairs to the roof, bell tower, transcept windows and boiler system of the church. The church building is now 'tired' and is beginning to fail to support the work of the church. Much work is needed externally to secure the fabric of the building to ensure the building remains a place of worship for the foreseeable future.

One of the main problems with the roof is nail rot and this needs urgent repair and treatment whilst the bell tower has problems with its stonework beginning to crumble and several small pieces have already fallen off. The boiler system is very old and past its standard end of life and therefore needs replacing, ideally before another cold winter sets in. The transcept windows need glass replacing (see picture above), protection from the elements and vandals throwing stones!

Phase 2

The second phase of The Repair & Regeneration Fund plan is where the church needs to adapt and develop it's facilities to enable it to serve the local community better than ever before with a particular emphasis on children and their support needs. This phase will involve a redefining of the space within the church and will include extending the current facilites to meet those needs and comply with current regulations.

Internally the church does not have the right sort of spaces for the amount of use that the building is being put to during the week and also needs an upgrade to the catering and sanitary facilities. There is also a great potential for a large performance and worship space in the main body of the church if we could get the seating to be movable, further expanding the uses the church can offer.

It is vital that these issues are tackled because the church is an iconic building, known throughout the Black Country, a local landmark and the only listed church in Old Hill. We have already raised enough money for the feasibility study to be professionally done and for a full set of plans to be drawn up along with a Business Plan to cover the entire project.

We now need to raise enough money to implement the plans and give a new heart to the people of Old Hill.

Our vision for the future

The plans, which were drawn up following consultations with the local community and from within the church itself, will: -

  • Restore our beautiful church building to its former glory
  • Extend and improve worship and leisure facilities for all
  • Ensure 'total access' for all disabilities
  • Present an open and welcoming face to the people of Old Hill
  • Ensure that our central role in the community continues to grow for the benefit of all

We believe that these goals, which will include cherishing the old and historic alongside developing new ventures such as a cafe, games hall, outside secure play area for children, church office and flexible performance space, can be achieved with the support of local people and the wider community who value our mission to care for all in our town.

What are we seeking?

We are continually fundraising within the church and local community but need to seek external funding as well. We need major funding partners for the capital project, both for the hertiage restoration and the new facilities. We also need funding contributions for specific parts of the project and long term revenue and capital support to support community based activity. Non-financial contributions and help for our fundraising through publicity or people's time is also very welcome.
